Classic Car Spotlight:1949 Mercury Eight Coupe

The 1949 Mercury Eight was a car that broke all of the rules of American car design. A majority of 1940s automobiles had huge bulbous fenders. The 1949 Mercury did not have huge fenders. With the 1949 Mercury, you were presented with clean, simple, and beautiful lines. The Mercury Eight was an instant hit with the public, especially teenagers and young adults. Many young folks bought Mercury coupes, and chopped the tops down by a few inches. The 1949 Mercury coupe first received major attention in the film "Rebel without a Cause". It was James Dean's main ride all throughout the film.

Another beautiful part of the Mercury was the all steel dashboard. The 1949-1950 Mercury dashboard is definitely a work of art. The gauge bezels, glove box, and steering wheel are beautifully crafted. What I love most though about the Mercury is the front grille. It appears as if the Mercury Eight coupe is always smiling at you. That nice smiling chrome grille really does make me feel special inside. Anyways, the Mercury Eight coupe is an awesome car. Peace!
