Why are the roads in El Paso so Bad?

With all of the money that El Paso receives, why are the roads in bad shape? It seems that every street in El Paso is full of holes and cracks. I believe that El Paso should send a check to every vehicle owner for suspension damage. I think my truck needs new shocks and springs. Seriously! I heard that El Paso spent a few million dollars on some street art project? If that is the case, then why not use that money to buy some cement and some tar. They can use the cement and tar to create smooth art pieces on the streets of El Paso. There is no excuse for bad roads.

Southwest Radio Is Horrible!

Image courtesy of Radio Clip Art.

AM/FM radio in SW Texas and NM is not very entertaining. I am not saying that XM/Sirius radio has the best programming in the world, but it is better than local radio. One station that I truly miss is KXCR 89.5. It is now known as K-Love. It was one radio station that I listened to frequently. Jazz and classical music was what you heard from Monday to Friday. On Friday nights and on the weekends you heard a variety of music. I remember on Friday nights, you could hear R&B music from the 50s, 60s, 80s, and 90s. On the weekends you could hear punk, ska, and hip hop. It was a great station. One thing that I loved was that they were always looking for volunteer disc jockeys. I remember my friends would always go down to Myrtle street and apply for whatever position was open. It was a station that was created for the public. In 2002, KXCR changed formats. Once that happened I turned the dial to KSNM 570 AM in Las Cruces. KSNM changed their format last September to an all talk format. If someone has a good idea for creating a new radio station in El Paso or in Las Cruces, let me know ASAP.

Lou Romano Has Been Located!

Lou has been found! According to my Father, he is a fill in radio host for KROD 600AM. I hardly listen to sports radio on the AM or XM satellite radio dial. As far as radio is concerned I only listen to what is on my media player or on internet radio. El Paso radio is very bland with the exception of the KLAQ morning show.

Michael Jackson:1958-2009

I love this album cover!

Peace and Love to Mike Jackson and all of the fans that supported him over the years! Thriller and Bad are my favorite Mike Jackson albums. They really are! Smooth Criminal and Beat It are my favorite songs. I never knew what the hell Mike was talking about in Smooth Criminal. Anyways, support Mike and buy his albums.

Over the Air Programming Part II

With the analog cut off date coming soon, many people are purchasing converter boxes and brand new digital televisions. I decided to give you a list of my personal favorite antennas and converter boxes. I have found that these devices work very well in metropolitan areas. The first item that I found to be very useful is the RCA ANT 1050 antenna. It is a ultra flat plastic antenna that can be hidden anywhere. It has great reception and only costs 15 dollars. The only downside to the antenna is that you have to assemble it.

As far as converter boxes are concerned, the RCA DTA800 is a great buy. You can find this converter box at Wal-Mart for 49.99. The box is very easy to setup. One feature that I loved about the box is that gives you a description of the program that you are watching. It provides the title of the program and gives a brief synopsis of the program. The DTA800 also gives you a schedule of shows that will be appearing on whatever channel you are watching. A signal meter also provides the user with on screen signal strength. The box is small and can placed sideways or standing up.

The Shield Season 7 DVD

The last and final season of The Shield, will be released next month. On June 9,2009, season 7 will be released. As always, the dvd set will feature deleted scenes and commentary from the cast and crew. The retail price will be 59.99 when it is released. I think I will wait for a few months to make a purchase. The Shield usually is on sale at Best Buy for 20 dollars each season. If you are a die hard Shield fan, then you will probably pay the 60 dollars. Speaking of The Shield, it is no longer being shown on the local NBC affiliate station KTSM. If anybody remembers, The Shield could be seen on Sunday morning at 1 AM. I guess The Shield was too hardcore for KTSM.

Skylar Zwick has been Found!

I know that many El Paso residents have been wondering as to what happened to Skylar. She is currently working in Alabama. Yes! Alabama! I guess she couldn't find a job. She is employed by WTVY 4 in Dothan, Alabama. I am not trying to be mean, but she still doesn't know how to dress and style her hair properly. I hope Skylar enjoys living in Alabama. I know that I would never live in Alabama.

Local News: Where is Lou Romano?

I haven't written a post in a few months. I apologize to all of my readers! If I have any? Well it turns out that KDBC 4 in El Paso is going through some changes. A few weeks ago, KDBC decided to cancel their morning and midday shows. No reason has been given for the cancellations. The host of the morning show, Lou Romano, has not been seen since the cancellation. I feel bad for Lou. He returns to El Paso and after a year he is left without a job. Talk about having good luck! But seriously, I do miss Lou. The KDBC morning show had something that other local morning shows do not have, and that is personality. I felt that I could relate to Lou. He is a man's man. He really is. He wasn't phony on screen or off the screen. Maybe KDBC will come to their senses and bring back the morning show. I can live without a midday show. All the morning show needs is a good co-host and a set tune-up. Another thing worth mentioning is that KDBC only has five employees. Damn!

Over the Air Programming:Has it Improved?

I remember using an antenna to watch TV as a kid in the 1980s. At that time there were only ten channels on the VHF/UHF bands. NBC, CBS, ABC and a few spanish language stations were available. With the introduction of digital/HD programming a few years ago, over the air viewers have a few more channels to view. Depending on the city and state that you live in, you may receive up to 30 channels with a simple antenna and a tv with a digital tuner. In my area, you can receive 18 channels over the air. So has over the air programming improved in my area? Yes it has. As far as HD channels are concerned, I receive six true HD stations and their sub channels. Here is a list of channels that I currently receive.

4.1 CBS HD
4.2 My Network
7.1 ABC HD
7.2 CW Network
7.3 ABC Weather Track
7.4 LATV
9.1 NBC HD
11.1 Spanish language HD station
13.1 PBS HD
13.2 PBS 2
13.3 Sprout?
14.1 FOX HD
14.2 Retro Television Network
20.1 Spanish language HD station
26.1 Univision HD, not really broadcasting in HD
29.1 Estrella HD
51.1 Telefutura

NBC HD had a weather channel. From what I have read, NBC decided to cancel the weather plus channel. They are thinking about replacing it with a sports channel. So should you cancel your cable service and buy an antenna. I like the current channel line up that I receive over the air. That is me though. Not everyone is a fan of over the air programming. Just keep your cable account open for the next few years. Over the air programming is a little more entertaining than it was in the 80s. Within the next few years more channels should be added to local OTA programming. If you want a particular channel added, then you should send a letter to your local station. Peace!

Creating Your Own Company

With the economy in a slump, many people are losing their jobs. People that have worked for ten or more years are suddenly jobless. People are filing for unemployment and are searching for work. For some it can be easy to find another job and for other people it can be a tough task. So what is a person to do? You can create your own business. It will not be easy to do, but with assistance from the Small Business Administration it should be an easy task. So what type of business should you create? How about a computer repair service or a transportation service. There are many things that you can do. It is all up to you. Starting your own internet radio station is another option. You can make money from advertising. Internet radio would be considered more of a side gig. Do not be afraid to start your own business. Your business can be the next Starbucks or Wal-Mart. You never know. Never be afraid of failure.

The Best TV Event of 2008:The Shield Series Finale

The Shield finally ended on November 25,2008 on the F/X network. I am sure that everyone viewed the final episode. My favorite part of the finale is when Vic receives his punishment. I could not stop laughing! In my opinion the show ended on a good note with the exception of Ronnie going to prison. So now that The Shield is finally over, what is one to do? Well if you want to see season 7 again, F/X is going to repeat season 7 this Saturday. So get your dvd recorder or TIVO ready. If you enjoyed watching the previous seasons, Spike is currently airing season 5 every Friday morning. I decided to provide the current air times for The Shield.

So what are the stars of The Shield doing now? Michael Chiklis is currently working on a new movie titled "High School". Walton Goggins recently appeared in the Spike Lee movie "Miracle at St.Anna". He is working on a movie titled "Damage". I believe it is going to be released in 2010. David Rees Snell made an appearance in the video game "Need For Speed:Undercover". Rees is also working on a movie titled "The Beacon". As far as the rest of the cast is concerned, you can get information at IMDB.com. The season 7 dvd will probably be released in the spring of summer of this year. Peace!

Internet Radio!

Where do I begin? Since 2005, I have been listening to internet radio faithfully. There was a point in time when I listened to terrestrial radio on a daily basis. Not anymore! The local radio programming in my city is horrible! As I have mentioned before, the only entertaining radio show is the KLAQ morning show. When it comes to music, I turn to the internet for my music listening. One problem with internet radio is that internet radio stations have to pay huge royalty fees. This is creating a huge problem for internet radio. Many internet radio stations are being forced to shut down. It is sad because many of these internet radio stations have excellent programming. Internet radio has better programming than satellite and terrestrial radio. Internet radio is so popular that, a few electronic companies are making internet radios for the home or office. So support internet radio stations! If you want more information on saving internet radio visit the website below. Pay a visit to Accuradio for all of your music needs. Accuradio is an excellent internet radio station. Peace!

One of the Best Shootout Scenes:The Wire Season 5 Clip

If you have not seen season five of The Wire, then you need to rent it or buy it. One of the best shoot out scenes can be viewed in this season. The scene below deals with Omar and Donnie shooting it out with Chris, Snoop, Mike, and O-Dog. Play the clip below and you will know what I am talking about! Did they call John Woo to direct this scene? You be the judge. Peace!

Forgotten Video: Hold On (Brand Nubian)

If I can remember correctly, this video was rarely played on MTV and BET. The song "Hold On" is featured on the album "Everything is Everything" from Brand Nubian. The album was released in 1994. Enjoy the video! Peace!

The Weather Channel Plays Great Jazz Music!

The Weather Channel+Music= A Good Combo!

If you receive "The Weather Channel" then the title of my post will ring a bell. The Weather Channel gives weather reports on the eighth of every hour. Weather on The 8's is the name of the service provided by The Weather Channel. During these one minute weather updates, you will hear jazz music and sometimes r&b music playing in the background. You can hear music from Dave Koz, The Temptations, and even George Benson. If you like jazz and r&b watch "Weather on the 8's" on the Weather Channel. Peace! Oh another thing, also keep an eye out for Stephanie Abrams! You cannot forget about Steph!!

Obama Girl!

OBAMA IS THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!! I am very happy! Well I was wondering about Obama Girl. What is her ethnicity? Is she part Asian or hispanic? It doesn't matter, she has the skills to pay the bills. I wonder if Obama is going to give her an invitation to his inauguration? I sure hope he does. I wouldn't mind seeing this girl at my inauguration! Peace!
